Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about your Ritual, from what is inside the jar to how it works.
The Basics
What is a bath tea?
A bath tea works like a tea bag, but for your bath. Each jar is filled with whole dried botanicals (herbs, flowers, roots, and other natural ingredients) that steep in warm bath water and release color, aroma, and plant-based properties into your soak. The result is a sensory herbal bath that rejuvenates the skin, relaxes the body, and calms the mind.
What is the difference between bath tea, bath soak, and foot soak?
Bath teas are purely botanical, with no salts or minerals. The herbs steep in warm water to release fragrance, plant compounds, and color. They are made for sensory experience, skin comfort, and ritual atmosphere. Bath soaks combine Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) with botanicals. The mineral base adds a deeper, muscle-relaxing quality, which makes them a good choice after a workout or a physically demanding day. Foot soaks are compact, targeted versions formulated for a basin rather than a full tub. They suit tired feet, apartment living, or any time you want the comfort of a soak without running a full bath.
What comes inside each jar?
Every Ritual arrives in a sealed glass jar with a wooden lid. Inside, you will find the botanical blend, a food-safe round sheet that keeps the botanicals separated from the bag, and an unbleached cotton muslin drawstring bag. The jar is finished with a tamper-evident seal and swing tags on a cotton string, so you know your Ritual reaches you exactly as it was packed.
How do I use bath tea or bath soak?
It is simple. 1. Open the jar and take out the muslin bag and the round separator sheet. 2. Empty the botanicals into the muslin bag and pull the drawstring closed. 3. Hang the bag from the faucet so warm water runs through it as the tub fills, which releases the botanicals quickly, or simply drop it into the water. 4. Let the bag steep for 15 to 20 minutes before you get in. 5. Soak for 20 to 30 minutes, squeezing the bag now and then to release more of the blend. Each product page and product tag includes tips for that specific blend.
Is one jar enough for one bath?
Yes. The contents of one jar are measured for one standard U.S. bathtub. We recommend emptying everything into the muslin bag, which keeps the botanicals contained and makes cleanup much easier.
Is the muslin bag included?
Yes. Every order includes an unbleached cotton muslin drawstring bag.
Can I add the botanicals straight to the tub without the bag?
You can, but we do not recommend it. Loose botanicals float, cling to skin, and make draining and cleanup harder. The muslin bag holds everything together while the water still steeps freely.
Ingredients and Formulation
Are the products scented with synthetic fragrance?
Never. All aroma comes from the botanicals themselves — the dried herbs, flowers, roots, and natural materials in the blend. We do not add synthetic fragrances, fragrance oils, or essential oils.
Are your products 100% natural?
Yes. Every ingredient is a whole botanical or a natural mineral, such as Epsom salt. We use no synthetic additives, no artificial dyes, no fillers, and no preservatives. If it is in the jar, it is on the label.
Are your products vegan?
Yes. All Ritual products are plant-based and vegan.
Will the bath tea stain my bathtub?
It is possible. Because these are real botanicals steeped in water, the way you would brew tea, some herbs and flowers can leave a light tint, especially on lighter or older tubs. To keep things easy, rinse the tub soon after draining rather than letting the water sit. A quick wipe while the tub is still wet is usually all it takes. This is the nature of real botanicals — a small trade-off for a genuinely natural soak.
Safety and Skin
Are the products safe for sensitive skin?
Most of our blends are gentle and well-tolerated. Tender Bloom Bath Tea is formulated specifically for sensitive, dry, or easily irritated skin, with colloidal oatmeal, calendula, chamomile, and rose. If you have known botanical allergies or reactive skin, do a patch test before your first full soak. All products are for external use only.
Are they safe for children?
Several blends are gentle enough for older children, but we recommend checking with your pediatrician first, especially for young children or babies. Tender Bloom is the most skin-gentle option. Avoid blends with peppermint or eucalyptus for very young children, and always supervise children during baths.
Are they safe during pregnancy or while nursing?
Please consult your physician before use if you are pregnant or nursing. Some botanicals, including valerian, blue lotus, damiana, and guarana, may not be appropriate during pregnancy. We do not make medical claims, and your healthcare provider is the best guide for your situation.
Can I use these if I have a medical condition or take medication?
Please check with your physician before use if you have any medical conditions, skin conditions, or take medication. These products are for external use only; individual sensitivities may vary.
Should I avoid anything if I have tree allergies?
Yes. Hinoki Grove Bath Tea contains hinoki cypress, cedarwood, and pine needle botanicals. Avoid this blend if you have known allergies to conifer trees or related plants.
Can I use these products on broken or wounded skin?
No. Do not use any of our soaks on broken or open skin. This is especially true for Warm Recovery Bath Soak and Sole Reset Foot Soak, which contain Epsom salt. Salt on broken skin is painful and counterproductive.
Reuse, Storage, and Shelf Life
Can I reuse the bath tea bag?
Yes. Each bath tea bag can be re-steeped two to three times, with a lighter infusion each time, much like a traditional tea bag. After use, rinse the bag and hang it to dry.
How long do the products last?
For the fullest aroma and potency, use within two years of the handcrafted date.
How should I store my products?
Store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, steam, and moisture.
Products and Collections
Which product is best for sleep?
Moonrest Bath Tea is our evening blend, made with chamomile, lavender, lemon balm, oatstraw, hops, blue lotus, and valerian root — botanicals traditionally associated with relaxation and sleep support. Best used 30–60 minutes before bedtime.
Which product is best for sore muscles after a workout?
Warm Recovery Bath Soak. It pairs Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate) with ginger, rosemary, and eucalyptus for a warming soak that helps ease muscle tension and leaves you feeling restored.
Which product is best for dry or sensitive skin?
Tender Bloom Bath Tea was created for exactly this. Its colloidal oatmeal base creates a silky, comforting bath that soothes dryness, reduces redness and irritation, and softens the skin.
I do not have a bathtub. Is there an option for me?
Yes. Sole Reset Foot Soak needs only a basin or large bowl. It is a complete ritual for tired feet, with no full bath required.
What makes Lover's Veil different from the other bath teas?
Lover's Veil Bath Tea is our richest, most layered blend, with rose, jasmine, damiana, blue lotus, patchouli, vanilla, cocoa, kanna, and maca. It was made for romantic evenings, self-love rituals, and shared baths, with a warmer, richer, more sensual aroma profile than the rest of the collection.
Orders, Subscriptions, and Gifting
Do you offer subscriptions?
Yes. Subscribe to any product, save $5 on every order, and keep your ritual stocked on a schedule that suits you. You can pause, change, or cancel anytime from your account, with no commitment.
How are subscription orders packaged?
Subscription refills arrive in a recyclable paper pouch rather than the glass jar, along with a fresh cotton muslin bag. Empty the pouch into the muslin bag and steep as usual. The refill format keeps your ritual going while using less packaging, since your jar already lives at home.
Do you offer gift cards?
Yes. Digital gift cards are available in $50, $100, and $200 denominations — ideal for birthdays, anniversaries, thank-yous, and holiday gifting.
Shipping, Delivery, and Returns
Where do you ship and how long does it take?
We currently ship within the United States. Orders are packed and shipped within 2 to 3 business days, and U.S. delivery by USPS Priority Mail usually arrives within 2 to 4 business days after that. You will receive tracking by email as soon as your order ships.
How much is shipping?
Shipping is calculated at checkout based on your order. Orders above our free-shipping threshold ship free within the U.S., and the amount left to reach it shows in your cart as you add items.
What is your return policy?
Because our products are natural botanicals meant for the bath, we cannot accept returns on opened jars or pouches, for safety and hygiene reasons. Unopened items in original condition can be returned within 30 days of delivery. If anything arrives damaged or incorrect, email us within 7 days, and we will make it right.
Do you sell wholesale or stock in stores?
We work with a number of spas, studios, and clean wellness retailers. For wholesale or partnership inquiries, contact us at jane@ritualbathkit.com.
Sustainability and Values
Is your packaging plastic-free?
Reducing plastic is a core commitment. Your Ritual comes in a reusable glass jar with a wooden lid, a paper-based refill pouch for subscriptions, an unbleached cotton muslin bag, and minimal recyclable outer packaging. The botanicals themselves compost after your soak. We are always working toward doing better.
Are your products cruelty-free?
Yes. All Ritual products are plant-based and cruelty-free.
What can I do with the botanicals after my bath?
Compost them or throw them away. Used botanicals are simply plants, so they go right into a compost pile or green bin. The food-safe separator sheet can go with them.
